Every home can benefit from a good deep clean from time to time. To avoid getting overwhelmed, it is ideal to break the process down into smaller, more manageable tasks.
Here, we will give you a deep house cleaning guide. Follow these steps as part of the cleaning regimen, and you will have a clean, tidy home that can pass any cleaning inspection.
1. Tidy up before deep cleaning
Get rid of any visible clutter that doesn’t belong in the room. Clearing clutter makes deep cleaning more accessible, and seeing these tidy surfaces can help boost your motivation to keep going.
2. Start high and work your way down
Start by tidying up large, hard-to-reach surfaces like ceilings, ceiling moldings, ceiling light fixtures, walls, and baseboards.
The best tools for these surfaces are clean microfiber mops or disinfectant cleaning wipes.
Surfaces close to the floor collect dirt and dust. To clean them, use warm water mixed with a drop of dish soap. In bathrooms, add a splash of white vinegar to the mix to prevent mold and mildew.
3. Deep clean windows
Cleaning windows is a simple task, but it has many benefits. I vacuumed the sills and tracks, then sprayed the windows with glass cleaner from top to bottom. I let it sit for one minute, then squeezed it off. If you wipe in one direction on the inside and another on the outside of the windows, it will be easier to see and fix streaks.
4. Renew window coverings
You don’t necessarily have to take down your curtains and blinds. It would be best if you vacuumed them with the brush attachment. And instead of washing and ironing your curtains, just put them in the dryer for a few minutes while you clean the rod and rings. Then, rehang them.
5. Dust surfaces
Clean all remaining hard surfaces, such as wood furniture, shelves, built-ins, etc., with a furniture cleaner and polish and a soft cloth. For an extra-quick clean, place a clean cotton sock in your dominant hand to dust surfaces, moving items out of the way with your other hand. Finally, run a lint roller over lampshades.
6. Deep clean floors
Moving furniture, such as beds and sofas, is essential to making cleaning more accessible. You can place furniture sliders under the legs of large pieces of furniture. Then, use a vacuum to get into corners and along baseboards. If you have hard floors, clean them with a microfiber mop and the appropriate surface cleaner. If you have carpet, you can rent a professional-grade cleaner; if you have pets or children, consider investing in one of your own.
